Scouting is a youth service organization and our first job must be to protect out youth members from injury and abuse. Scouting must be a safe and secure environment for everyone. All leaders, all members of units committees, indeed anyone who works with young people need to know the facts and responsibilities of youth protection.

  • Enable Scouting’s leaders and parents to recognize indicators of abuse when they see them.
  • Increase the protection of children by promoting prompt reporting of suspected abuse.
  • Inform Scouting’s leaders of the BSA’s Youth Protection policies.
  • Increase leaders’ and parents’ awareness of other BSA Youth Protection materials, including It Happened to Me, a video for Cub Scout-age boys and their parents, and A Time to Tell, a video for Boy Scout-age boys.
  • Inform participants of the precise child abuse reporting procedures to be used in the council.

In order to have an overnight Tour Permit authorized by the Northern New Jersey Council, at least one adult
registered leader attending the trip must show proof of valid youth protection training
